Why is Illinois so bad at recruiting the Chicagoland area?

Basketball-wise those kids can pick wherever they want to go and the University of Illinois is not attractive enough for them to stay. I compare that to the level of high school football talent coming out of San Diego since the late 80s/early 90s up to at least 10 years ago (I don’t know about lately). If that talent stayed in San Diego and went to San Diego State they would have been a perennial top-10 football squad. However, year after year that talent went everywhere else because SDSU was not attractive enough for them to stay.

Football is dead. Lovie mute ass not convincing anyone to not go to the powerhouses down south or other big 10 schools with better programs like OSU. Basketball is weird. I don’t know why they can’t recruit. Champaign isn’t the best but it’s not different then other colleges in hick nothing towns. They haven’t recruited anyone special since Self in 03

Actually the only reason Illinois ever got a foothold in Chicago was when Ray Meyer retired. Illinois was terrible historically before the late 80’s. It will take a Coach with Chicago ties but the athletic director has no clue.

What? :heh:

What happened with that, and how did that even happen in the first place? How did you end up running trains on a 40 year old(I'm assuming cac) mother if you're in a college setting? :mjlol:

Tinder. That was my cousin's thot he brought over. After he got his rocks off he asked any of us if we wanted a crack and she was down for it.

Im convinced she has a history of cuckholding...dont ask me how lol

KU and Duke are premier if your hopes are getting drafted.

I'm surprised this is even a discussion.

I agree my point was that talent from the Midwest often stays local and gets drafted...lots of blue chip Indiana and Ohio players played in the B1G and were drafted.

However in Chicago, specifically the public schools lean their talent towards calipari, duke and KU while Ohio top player or Indiana or Michigan top players remain in the area.

PG x MD
Very similar to UMD for basketball. The DMV is one of the most talented areas for basketball yet Maryland struggles to get top kids from the area to play there. I still am amazed that Marland couldn’t pull Kevin Durant and he went to Texas. A program that is definitely not a basketball powerhouse. Yet they took this caliber of player from PG county.

Always wonder d why at least DePaul couldn’t field a better team as well for Chicago.
Michael Beasley was the class after KD and he went to fukking Kansas State. That shyt was so shameful to me. Even worse when you find out DeMatha is like 5 min away from UMD. One year DeMatha had Victor Oladipo, Quinn Cook, Jeremy Grant, Jerian Grant, Jairus Lyles....None of them even considered Maryland an option and they're all currently in the NBA right now

Champaign isn't the most attractive or exciting place to live in and as a party town it pales to comparison to a school like Iowa. Man Iowa has some of the most down for anything white bytches I came across....from experience.

And if a chicago football recruit had a option between Illinois or Northwestern...9/10 they would pick Northwestern. We sure as hell dont have a chance against Ohio St in recruiting, Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan...schools that have more prestige.

The day Eric Gordon chose Indiana or Illinois after he decommited was the end of our basketball chapter.

We missed out on D Rose and all the insane raw Chicago talent over the last decade.

Then came Cliff Alexander

Quentin Snider burned us too by going to L Ville.

Videos like that makes the entire University look like a bunch of lame ass losers.

Our football program used to be so cold man...during the Juice Williams days, now we suck. Its been 7 years since we won a Bowl game, 10 years since we made it to a major bowl game :francis:

I like Lovie Smith but I dont think he can turn things around for us. Its a uphill climb

juice, arrelious benn and mendenhall :wow:

Imagine an Illinois school trying to scoop an Ohio native. :bryan:

"We know you're a premier running back, and we know @smitty22 and his OSU crew have offered you a full ride, unlimited boosters, thick pawgs, class clout and top draft exposure, but please come to Northwestern. We've got hippies and a quad with glow sticks." :skip:

No it can't.

Even at the schools you mentioned there are majors you can hide athletes in to shield them. At GT right off the bat you have to take Calculus. Anything below that is a remedial course. While I was there even the management majors had to take chemistry and physics, and those two courses are weed out courses for everyone. At other schools they had grade replacement where if you took a course again and received a higher grade it replaced the former grade, not so at GT, they would just average the grades together with everything else, keeping your GPA low. Even though I went to the school I would never send my kid there unless they actually wanted to be an engineer and I would not recommend an athlete go there if all they care about is sports.

I already told my wife I want my kids to go to Tech but only if they know what they are getting into. It's a beast that you can't take lightly.
