Don't need to read that long ass article. It's already obvious Hollywood is nearing the edge of the cliff.

Pretty good read even though I've read something like this before. But anyway, it's coming.. and it's obvious as hell its coming.

Movie ticket prices exploding
Sequels and Comicbook movies. When that bubble finally pops :whew:
China buying up Hollywood companies
etc
Yeah, this is basically old news although I found the direct comparisons with the tech industry interesting.

China isn't going to buy up Hollywood though. The Chinese government is coming down hard on foreign spending because these Chinese investment companies are taking money out of the country with no long term plans to invest further into China's own economy. That bubble is going to burst faster than Hollywood will.

I just said China was buying up Hollywood companies. I know they don't want the whole thing :skip:

And I read the article about that foreign spending clamp.

Fair enough, but my point still stands that the Chinese economy is the dangerous bubble, not Hollywood's own bubble (although since that one has started to become reliant on the Chinese investments, one burst could pop both bubbles).

Interesting enough it seems the downward spiral of Hollywood has benefited "black films". Right now it's all about making low-mid budget movies that produce a decent return. If you look at movies from Tyler Perry, Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, etc they're all consistent performers. You throw in Hidden Figures and Fences as more evidence blacks still support movies. As a result, just from a financial standpoint it makes sense to make black films. It's very similar to what Jason Blum is doing with his horror/thriller low-mid budget movies.

Years ago on this forum I used to say that the biggest lowkey benefit for black hollywood films (and black actors) would be afrikan countries like Nigeria, Ghana, etc finally getting their economy, infrastructure, electricity, etc stabilized and flourishing to the point where they could turn their attention to such luxuries as movie theaters; where-in they could play the same politics that China and other countries do in being 'valued customers' that hollywood has to find a way to cater to (or to not piss off).

That was largely based off the "old model", and in regards to big budget films or just films outside the usual scope of slave films and historical 1960s pieces. It'll be interesting to see what opportunities come out with this new model and how other black entertainers can perhaps take that Tyler Perry model (for lack of a better term) and expand it to other genres. Kevin Hart is already doing so in his own movies, as far as the comedy realm.

Just read it. Great article. Some things I already knew about or suspected but some of the data presented and the overall picture that was painted of the tech industries influence was very insightful.
