Why has Mississippi barely produced any major rappers?

Same with DC and Bmore crazy how those places got so much black culture but never produced a famous rapper

DC and Bmore has their own music wave going on for a while tho, locally. DC with the go go music and Bmore with the club music thing (forgot the name) . Even tho it was primarily local talent, that expanded. Think that kind of sets those cities apart.

Soulja Boy is, well, Soulja Boy & he always claimed ATL, except when he first came out he was admitting he moved to Mississippi with his dad.
Never knew he was. But that’s kinda like luda claiming being from Illinois when he damn near grew up here... it’s where you feel your roots lie.
David Banner,

Came here to say him but being not from Mississippi.... I wouldn’t know about underground Banner.

It's literally Baltimore Club Music
:lolbron:

Baltimore and DC got an underground scene outside of Go-Go and Bmore Club tho

Bmore got all the Lor rappers (RIP Lor Scoota), Tate Kobang, Bandhunta Izzy, YBS Skola, Blue Benjamin, TSO, etc. all dude catching M's on views

DC got a grip of underground and mainstream (more mainstream that bmore) artists too. The whole DC/Bmore mentality be on some crabs in a bucket shyt tho, so you don't see many artists get rallied behind and pushed up like you get in other areas.

There was no small industry in mississippi in the 90s & 2000s like in a alot of other southern states like texas, tennesse, louisiana, georgia & florida

The most talented artist form Mississippi even alabama had to leave to get shots at getting noticed & possibly signed

Where as places like georgia, miami, texas & memphis had many independent labels with small budgets for undergound to even lesser talented rappers to put out material that gain some type of notoriety

Its a ton of rappers out there tho

I always thought this song was dope

And found it funny that you could hear the pain in David Banners voice that black folks left Mississippi and the deep south the fukk behind and now don't even mention or claim the state even though most of us got roots and family there:manny:

Even when the rappers shout out a dozen states and cities in their songs they don't mention Mississippi:hubie:

We from a place
Where ya used to come in the summertime
Now y'all don't mention us in your rhymes :mjcry:

we kin folk:mjcry:

It's funny as hell because it's true. I absolutely did used to visit the deep south with my grandma during the summer as a kid , having fun all day with all my country ass cousins, then went back to the city at the end of the summer where my friends would be like "so where were you all summer?" and I'd be like "In Mississippi:camby:" and they'd be all :umad::scusthov:

I never considered how shyt like that made my country ass cousins feel:mjcry:
And then that shyt talking at the end of the song:mjlol:

Where yo grandmama from nikka?
Yo ol one generation moved away slave ass
booty fukk ass
punk ass bytch
Now come on back home get u something to eat:feedme:
Ol punk ass nikka

Are you from MS OP?

But yea it's crazy when you think about it cause MS is damn near the birthplace of americas music since blues came from there. plus MS has the most grammy winners out of any state and hella artists from Elvis, Ike Turner. Rick Ross, Nate Dogg, Britney Spears, 3 doors down, The lead singer of Paramore, David Ruffin, and Bb king were born there.

D.C & Bmore are cultural deserts and there's more black ppl in gentrified Bed stuy & Crown heights sections of Brooklyn then there are in B more & D.C combined.
The real mystery is Detroit. Swag, Club culture, Car culture, actual black cultural center, strong Hiphop culture and musical legacy....D12 :mjlol:
