Why would the South be insecure about creation of musical genres when the south is the birthplace of MOST forms created here. You think hip hop was created in a vacuum? There’s no hip hop without the southern groundwork laid before it’s creation. And how we need to get over anything when most new NY rappers gotta ride the south’s wave to get play.

They really wouldn’t even have beat breaks to rap over without the south. The most sampled musician is James Brown. But I’m not here to hate, I’ve rarely met an NYer that didn’t let it be known. The folks I know are cool… but they’ve been down south a minute
