People are quick to single out a steroid era and label the players cheaters, but why dont these same columnist bring up the use of amphetamines from the previous era? Those are illegal performance enhancers as well but nobody seems to bring this up or put an * next to any records or accomplishments.

It does get mentioned occasionally but never gets any traction. The "steriod era" issue is not one based in fact or logic it one purely based in emotion. First off a lot of these writers feel stupid as fukk for having all these guys using roids right under their noses and nobody either peeped or spoke up. Secondly guys like Costas literally worhship the players of their childhood and before and are unable to view them realistically. Anytime a person brings up greenies or use of other drugs or segregation or any other transgressions that the old school players were involved in or benefitted from it is met with :manny: and "Steriods are the worst thing ever!". If you are looking for consistency or reason stop wasting your time.

The same reason in 50 years the steroid era will be a non story. Muthafukkas don't give a fukk about the past.

Its :mindblown: cause you see past players admit to using greenies to get a boost only to see those in the media just

How about past players like Willie fukkin Mays and Bob fukkin Gibson among others saying they would have tried steriods if they had been available to them. It's blatant hypocrisy plain and simple. The same cats calling guys thugs when they get in trouble or get caught with drugs or DUIs or associating with "the wrong element" now, worship Ruth's barfighting ass and Mantle's lush ass or DiMaggio's connected with the mob ass. If you try to apply logic to the shyt you head will explode.

A lot of great points being made in here. It's shocking to me that someone can say Bonds numbers are in question because of steroids but Ruth's numbers aren't in question despite Ruth playing in a :mjpls: league.

I could put up some pretty good numbers if we pick and choose who I play against based on random characteristics and not talent.

:dead: at the absolutely flawless use of :mjpls:. You can't teach that shyt. Well done sir. Well done.

Because players still do use greenies, they just get an ADHD diagnosis and get an adderall script, the % of ballplayers with ADHD vs. the general population is pretty skewed man

Greenies weren't banned until 2006. Also the perception on amphetamines is different among players, it's/was looked at like people look at Red Bull or 5 hr energy drink now it was never looked at as "cheating" the way steroids has. And the "performance enhancer" phrase has to go, water is a performance enhancer.

Weren't amphetamines an illegal drug just like roids were? I could be wrong though. It gives you a boost thru fatigue so u can play more games, Roids gave you a boost so u can recover quicker with workouts thus making you stronger.

Yeah, but I believe there were legal ones and from what I understand MLB didn't explicitly ban their usage until 06. As for the benefits, I don't think it's really comparable especially when you talk about HGH which can actually improve hand-eye coordination.

Not excusing the media's bs on the steroids issue.

My thing is both are illegal for the most part and they both benefited players one more than the other but it kills me that people wanna take the moral high road all of a sudden when it comes to the juice but it was no issue when players were amped up on amphetamines/coke or other substances.

I think nobody cared because the greenies just helped you get amped for the game and give you energy, they didnt give you the ability to hit 50 homers when your career average was 15.

agreed, the moral high ground by the media is bs, but baseball has always been weird like that. The spitball was legal for years and admitted cheats (pitchers) are in the hall. For some reason cheating hitters have always been looked at differently.

Anything will be done to preserve the fore fathers of the game because they had "dignity" and the did it the "right way" and they "loved" the game. Old school players as a whole get way too much of a pass for the past. It's easier to down today's players because o how "easier" things are for them. Like hitting a 95-100mph fastball is easier to hit than back in the 50's/60's....oh wait, no one was throwing that fast back then. It's an old school respect thing. I can't stand that:pacspit:
