Why doesn't the NFL Playoffs match up 6 & 7 seeds?

Then NFL gets an extra week of revenue. Call it Bottom Card Weekend. Then Wild card, Divisional, Championship per usual.

And then top 2 seeds can get a 2 week bye as it's back to six teams. And the other 3 teams get a one week bye while 6 & 7 battle it out.

Makes more sense to me

Plus this would put more time between CFP championship and NFL conference championship even if CFP doesn't adjust championship to be earlier.

CFP championship got a little lost in the mix this year...even though College Football fell off 10 years ago for me in general. I stopped paying proper attention until playoff time for a long while.

i think having a two-week bye could actually be a disadvantage, like teams getting rusty

Perhaps. But college football players have 2 weeks off at times bowl season...and well the Superbowl is a 2 week gap. 2 weeks can get guys quite healthy.

But my suggested format makes top 5 seeds worth wild for rest. Plus it gives the 6th seed a guaranteed home game so staying out of the 7th spot is the goal... Because right now 5, 6 & 7 are interchangeable incentives opening round.

college is actually a good example of this, all the teams that got byes went out kinda early

Sure, But NFL is real pros.

Plus NFL players always say everyone is injured end of season...it's time enough to feel good & get a couple extra guys back in some cases.
