It's not a cure, and only one vial was available. Only one of the doctors got it at first. It's experimental and probably expensive and difficult to synthesize/manufacture. No word on its effectiveness yet. If it works they will ship it to Africa to help.
Only one vial was available? What makes you believe that?

Only one of the doctors got it at first? That's interesting, how exactly did he manage to get that one vial?

It's experimental and probably expensive and diffcult to synthesize/manufacture. It's experimental but they decided to experiment on these 3 Europeans and none of the Thousands of Africans dying huh? Whats your explanation for that? And as far as it being difficult to synthesize/manufacture, how did you come to that conclusion?

No word on its effectivenss yet? The article says the 3 Europeans immediatly started to recover after taking it....so what do you call that if not "word on its effectiveness"?

If it works they will ship it to Africa to help. So the African lives arent worth enough to use the "experimental" product thats already, at the least, has been shown to buy them more time huh?

The doctors were given as last ditch efforts. They are under direct medical care....most Africans right now aren't. The article mentions immediate symptoms clearing up, but there is no word on the long time efficacy. How will it leave the body, will the antibodies create a reaction in human hosts, what impact does it have on liver function, etc. Making drugs and vaccines is a long expensive process. Most drugs go through 10+ years of trials before the market. You don't give new freshly made drugs to people. The article even explains the FDA has a a special provision for this. They were going to die anyway so whatever happens happens when they get the drug.

If you still have trepidation that's fine but I'm telling you from my experience that this is the process and there was no reason to have hundreds of Ebola vaccines on call...there has never been an outbreak of this magnitude.

The doctors were given as last ditch efforts. So why arent the African doctors being provided t his cure as a last ditch effort as well?

They are under direct medical care....most Africans right now arent? And how exactly do you know that these Africans are not under direct medical care? Where do you suppose the majority are or go after they get sick?

The article mentions immediate symptoms clearing up... Isn't that enough? If there is something available that buys these people more time shouldnt they be allowed to use it?

Impact on liver function?? Are you serious? You think dying is a better option then possiable liver side effects?

Also, you didnt even attempt to answer my other questions, why is that?

1) How many African doctors have been infected? I only know of a few doctors who were there to help becoming infected.

2) This is happening in a very backwoods area of West Africa. This isn't in Lagos, or another major area as yet. There is very clearly a shortage of doctors and facilities to handle it. That's the whole reason Doctors Without Borders and the Red Cross is there. Most people are getting sick and dying in the or villages within 48 hours.

3) Thats great, however that does not mean it's a cure. Moreover, it's vital to know just how the drug is working in case other complications arrive. Thats why I brought liver issues etc. They can still die if it affects major organs detrimentally. They will still have the Ebola btw, it's a virus. We cannot cure viruses. These people are still carriers and have the ability to infect people still. Until all these issues have been addressed, you can't flood the population with experimental drugs. Come on this is common sense, basic biology.

4) Every year Americans barely have enough flu vaccine synthesized for everyone, a virus everyone gets all the time. How can you expect enough Ebola vaccine to appear out of nowhere for this? Vaccines are expensive, and take a lot of chemistry to make. You don't pull them out of thin air.

Yes! You should be too. Cacs are being used as guinea pigs. If it works well, we have a great vaccine to then send to our African bredren

So if they are the guinea pigs, what are the thousands of Africans that have been dying? The sacrifical lambs?

what race do you identify yourself as?

Y'all so shook over Ebola. People really angry over the ebola patients being flown to the US like we don't have people with flesh eating diseases already in the country :mindblown:

now a conspiracy thread about the government manufacturing the virus. :wtf:

Didn't they just do a massive bio attack simulation in NY about what would happen if a widespread transferable disease got out? Emory U in the ATL has them right? Over 60% of flights go through the ATL? All they need is the flu strain from the early 1900s and it's a wrap. Ebola, polio, influenza and one or two more and the next two years are going to be a tragedy.

When the buildings and global financial system get crushed you will know it was prepared in advance.
because disease prevention is a bad thing? :heh:

heres a better question...

why have at least 1800 Africans been allowed to die from this virus and its not until 3 Europeans contract it that this "secret serum" is revealed?

They have been sitting on the cure while all these people have been dying

http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/04/health/experimental-ebola-serum/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
Because Americans have an experimental treatment thats hard to produce and even harder to administer.

Even getting the two doctors to the states wasn't that easy.

Thats what they said.

Only one of the doctors got it at first? That's interesting, how exactly did he manage to get that one vial?
Because the US doctors who came to save them gave it to them???

because rare viruses don't get priority of research funding

They simply haven't died yet. It doesn't mean they'll live or not be fukked up as a result.

If it works they will ship it to Africa to help. So the African lives arent worth enough to use the "experimental" product thats already, at the least, has been shown to buy them more time huh?

What the fukk does EXPERIMENTAL mean to you?

One bad batch and nikkas will be suing any and everyone.
