Good post but :whoa:

Nobody is saying that one conference has a monopoly on QBs, but the SEC's vaunted defenses should make guys better in theory right? But it is not the case. Notice that guys that tend to be successful, played multiple years as a starter in passing friendly conference where shoot outs are more likely. This puts a lot of pressure on the QBs to make plays and be on top of their game.

lol...no the SECs vaunted defense means they should be producing more elite defensive players than other conferences...I don't have time to run those numbers, because that's a lot more work that I don't feel like doing

QBs succeed on the pro level based on the talent around them, good coaching, and a good system in place...it has NOTHING to do with what they did in college or what conference they played in.

respect, usa
as opposed to what other conference?

you act like there's some conference out there that's got the majority of the elite QBs in the league

Elite NFL QBs
Tom Brady - Big Ten
Drew Brees - Big Ten
Peyton Manning - SEC
Eli Manning - SEC
Aaron Rodgers - Pac 12

Next Tier NFL QBs
Matt Ryan - ACC
Ben Roethlisberger - MAC
Jay Cutler - SEC
Joe Flacco - 1 AA
Matt Stafford - SEC
Tony Romo - 1 AA
Phillip Rivers - ACC
Matt Schaub - ACC
Mike Vick - ACC

the young guys like Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin, Ryan Tannehill, Andy Dalton, Josh Freeman are still developing we don't know where they'll wind up

I mean...where is this mythical conference that's producing mad elite QBs?

Matt Stafford has regressed something serious. and Jay Cutler :childplease:

And unpopular opinion time but Cam Newton is on the verge of collapse. He might end up like Vince Young. It's one thing when people start questioning your ability and judgement as a quarterback but when the media and teammates start questioning your character it's the beginning of the end.

This isn't about producing elite quarterbacks because only a few can be elite. The point is there is not one quarterback in that conference that is even respectable.

Defenses are better
If I was a elite qb I'd not want to play that many games against elite defenses

I swear to god this makes to much sense. SEC just plays good football.Control the clock with the run game, dominate the line of scrimmage, have your QB manage the game with efficient passing, and let your D physically dominate/intimidate the other team's offense. Its the most successful recipe for football success for like 40 years now, and it aint changing, no matter what the NFL tries to show you.

wow...that whole middle tier outside of Roethlisberger and Ryan have massive flaws like Cutler and Stafford

and Newton's having a rough sophomore year but his rookie season was every bit as good as Griffin's has been to this point...so we can't just dump him out of that category since we have no clue how those guys will do in future years

and Manziel and Driskel are both showing signs of being good...Tennessee and Georgia both have solid QBs...I mean just...some of you guys have done no research...what conference is producing this massive amount of great QBs???

I mean you really think these Big 12 QBs are all good?...Pac 12? Big 10? ACC?...

thought Chris Brown has a pretty good explanation

The interplay of recruiting, eliteness and pro-style versus spread schemes | Smart Football

For the truly elite-level recruiting teams, I think the agnosticism of pro-style treats them well because they basically recruit incredible players and then figure out the system and scheme later. Moreover, spread offenses, option offenses, and really any pass-first offense (including West Coast attacks of which I’d put Georgia in the category) require very good quarterback play. Alabama and LSU are basically designed to win in spite of their quarterbacks; Nick Saban does not want to return an all world defense with a bunch of five-star playmakers and lose because his QB was a junior and had some “growing pains”, which absolutely happens at every level. In other words, if you get be a top 5 recruiting team every year, it’s not that you want to be pro-style it’s that you want to be “system neutral.” They can get superior talent and can fit plays around those incredible guys. Note that this isn’t the same as “fitting your scheme to your players,” because we’re talking about first round draft choice guys not guys with certain strengths and certain weaknesses. I leave aside whether pro-style is truly more attractive to recruits or not.

Its impressive that Florida had a ton of success in the 90's with a QB reliant system given how hard it is to keep finding guys that can run those system well even for big teams.

:yeshrug: they have alot of teams in the big 10-12 pac ten that fukkin flat out is trash and crumble against a top team from the sec, but put up 50 tds in there conference, and outside of usc teams which teams wit a pro style offense have elite level qbs, and usc is the top school on the west, they only comp is Oregon and they run speed option, so the best qbs on that coast will most likey go to sc
