According to the latest census date, on an official, legal level, people of Mexican descent are considered white.

However, in reality, we know that Mexicans are clearly not considered white. What do you really think that a white person thinks of when they hear the word, "Mexican?" When you hear people list off races and ethnicities, Mexican/Hispanic/Latino is always separated from white. They go by skin color, not the past lineage someone might have. They don't want to include dark-skinned, blue-collared people into their fold and it doesn't matter to them that you may or may not have Spanish Ancestry.

PS: Stop trying to be white. People are going to think what they think about you, and if you run around brown-skinned insisting that you're white, you just look more retarded than anything else. PPS: I'm of Mexican descent and am happy to be of Mexican descent. I don't try to hide it. People always ask me if I'm Brazilian or Italian or some shyt. There is something very repugnant about hiding behind a different ancestral background in order to get people to like you better. Besides, I like tearing down people's negative expectations of Mexicans. If I can leave a good impression on people, maybe that little bit would go a long way to changing someone's world view.

I know a lot of hispanic people that are on that bullshyt too where they wanna be white or as close to it as possible, cause schools only teach kids about white history.

If people opened up a history book they could see that Mexicans have done a lot to be proud of and being white, going by history, would be the last thing anyone wants to be.
