We are a Constitutional Republic that elects our leaders, through democratic means. A democratic republic depending on who you ask. Anyone who says otherwise is a disingenuous actor who's trying sell you an idea that involves taking a Constitutional freedom away.

A republic is where people elect a representative to represent their interests.
A pure democracy is direct voting of the people on issues, like town halls in small towns in New England.
A Democratic republic is a government where representatives are elected by the people instead of appointed by a king, which is what Parliament had back when America declared independence.
