Not saying this s hat I believe, but in a book I read by Robert Jay Lifton I recall a lot of Israeli protection comes from America being a fundamentally Christian nation. Not in the good way though, with the though that in Bible prophecy Israel had to be restored before Armageddon could happen.

America seems dominated by the Israeli lobby. There have been times in which Israel quite literally said, "We don't care what America thinks, we are going to do this anyways." And yet the American foreign aid money keeps rolling in. From a geopolitical standpoint, Israel is America's "enter" point or "ally" in a region that the West has vested "interests" in. Quite the typical political speak that any person with a solid eye instantly sees through.
