Why do the masses keep sh*tting on Will Smith's recent career ?

You can shyt on him all you want. Dude is a upper echelon actor and that hasn't changed. He honestly has nothing to prove in the acting category. He's taken some questionable roles and movies but thats just bad decision making.
His problem is he's chasing an oscar and its blatant in his role choices. Hopefully he will be humbled with Suicide Squad and start taking more fun interesting roles that fit him better and that audiences like him in. Tome Cruise found his niche again with Jack Reacher, Live. Die. Repeat., Mission Impossible etc. Will's gotta go back to the Bad Boys, MIB and Independence Day type movies because that's where he shines.
He wanted to prove that he can act at the Oscar caliber and he did that. Now he needs to go back to what audiences ultimately like him in instead of what they don't.
It's just like music, you may have a thoughtful deep lyrical side but if people only wanna listen to you for your club bangers than keep making club bangers but its like will smith thinks hes too good for those know.

Yeah, but I believe that Suicide Squad will put Big Willie back to stardom. That movie ain't gonna flop.
He doesn't take any risks career wise. "Concussion" looks like his response to that criticism, that doesn't seem like it turned out to be much though. He even said that him and his agent sat down and studied the 10 top grossing films of all time and saw that there was a clear formula for making blockbuster movies. That's all well and good, it's great to have a strategy, but it's not always good to reveal it. Especially when it comes to any kind of artistic expression. Nothing wrong with making a ton of money, but the pretentious people that sway public opinion on things like this prefer people who suffer for their art, and obviously put the art first, this was Will Smith clearly admitting that he was out to be a movie star and not necessarily make great movies. That article is from 2007 it seems like it was right around that time that public opinion about him began to sway.

"Career reborn"
When did it die. Will decided himself to fall back and start producing and focusing on dramatic roles as he's getting older. Just because he's intentionally not making the films you want him to make, it doesn't mean his career is dying
. He's doing exactly the same as Angelina Jolie.
Some of you just need to keep it 100 and say you want him specifically in the action blockbuster/comedy role as opposed to dramatic. As that is clearly what the problem is here. Funny thing is y'all would have clowned any other actor who did the opposite and stuck to just "dumb popcorn films" and one-note roles instead of trying to show their acting range. Yet when Will does what everyone praises other actors for doing it's a problem

His movies are getting poor reviews and not crushing box offices anymore, whether they're dramas or sci-fi thrillers, they're underperforming. Those are facts.
Will's movies have never gotten "great reviews" and in fact the reviews of his recent films are inline with his earlier stuff.
What's underpeformed with him in the lead? Movies like Concussion, Seven Pounds and Pursuit etc aren't supposed to be box office juggernauts. Yet Will still gets them to triple their budgets. Those are non-comedic and non-action roles and of course the genre matters when that's clearly what the point of contention is here
Was The Judge (a drama) with Robert Downey Jr meant to do Iron Man or Sherlock numbers because he's simply in it? of course not
Will doesn't want to be "the action blockbuster star" or "the fresh prince" anymore. He's got older and moved on, his audience/fanbase clearly have not

MIB III performed worse than II and got worse reviews, After Earth failed by all standards DISATROUSLY (bombed and didn't launch your acting career), movies he's tagged on as producers have mediocre financial performance and reviews, Focus got panned by critics and all these late year Oscar bait movies have fallen flat and gotten him no awards.
Only thing Will is winning at is getting pay checks. I'm not his son, so I don't give a fukk about that, in just an unbiased moviegoer who sees him looking
