I'm watching Dan LeBatard and they're shytting on Will Smith. Dan says that Big Willy has been failing for a decade. They all agreed that Focus was horrible:dwillhuh:. I mean it was not a classic but it was enjoyable. When you look at his last few movies the only one that was definitely a failure was After Earth. Can anyone explain why the perception is that he sucks now? It is a very common opinion on Will Smith.

Total Budget
12/25/15 Concussion (2015) Sony $25,928,750 $26 mill- $35 mil

5/31/13 After Earth Sony $60,522,097 $243,843,127- $130 mil
5/25/12 MIB 3 Sony $179,020,854 $624 mill- $225 mill
12/19/08 Seven Pounds Sony $69,951,824 $168 mill- $55 mill

The earliest instance of him getting a mixed critical/audience reception (that I remember) was I Am Legend (because of the ending). Then it happened again with Hancock, another film with a mixed reception. When After Earth came out, it really became open season on him because of that film and his connection to Jaden.

It's just a part of internet thinking, where the middle doesn't exist. You're either the best or the worst.

Looking at his string of movies lately :patrice:, you can see why some of the perception has shifted though. There was a certain time period where Will Smith was the epitome of a movie star and everything he dropped was a big event. Now his movies don't have that same luster, even though I enjoyed Focus when I watched it on HBO :yeshrug:. All it takes is one hit or the right choice in script though.

Ok I understand mixed receptions critical, but people are also saying that his box office performance has been shytty. That is just not true:manny:
