Why do so many movies have low volume dialogue and high volume music?

because movies were designed for surround sound with a good setup. anything less than that and the channels get mixed together and the dialog gets muddled.

Its well known that in many movies the dialog is extremely low. It sucks when the characters are explaining important back stories and plaot and you have to rewind and turn the volume up

Yeah i noticed that as well... shyts annoying

And some movies are worse than others so thats how I know it isn't just your speakers all the time...

I got a sony speaker bar and it helps alot though, makes the sounds and dialogue more crisp and evened out with the music/action scences

If you have a surrond system you shouldn't be having this problem

Just turn the center speaker up 2 or 3 notches higher then the rest and you should be good

like I said, these shyt's are meant to be played loud. they don't care about your neighbors when they're mixing this shyt. they expect you to have it loud enough to hear the dialog, and then have shyt fall off the wall during the action scenes

let me be captain obvious here.... isn't that the way real life works??? explosions are a lot louder than two people talking in the park

in other words... same shyt happens in the movie theater.. watch as two people talk in the office at one volume, then the building blows up and you can feel it in the next theater over

I had the same problem on my PS3 when I played a Bluray, looked it up and found out its an audio setting.

BD/DVD Dynamic Range Control
One problem with high-end digital audio outputs is that they are impractical for low-volume usage. If you are trying to watch a film and your volume isn't cranked, hearing the film's dialogue can be incredibly difficult; the words get lost in the soundtrack and effects. To prevent this, Sony incorporated an automated feature that would boost dialogue, however, we've noticed that this feature can increase dialogue beyond favorable levels at times. To ensure that you get pristine audio performance, we recommend keeping this feature set to "Off."

check your set top boxes and change the Audio Range setting from Narrow to standard. This is normally a digital cable problem. On DVD/bluray players is less frequent but is usually a wrong setting for the connection/cable you're using example not turning on the bit-stream option on when using optical/hdmi cables. etc check you audio settings:aicmon:
