Why do so many Black men encourage Black women to be fat under the guise of being "thick"?

Neck ties and boxing gloves.

The findings fall in line with evolutionary theories that suggest when resources are scarce or unpredictable, a woman’s thin physique may signal illness, frailty and the inability to reproduce.

Indeed, Tovée and colleague Viren Swami of the University of Westminster in London have previously found that men under trying conditions — like extreme hunger — tend to rate heavier women as more attractive. The researchers suggest also that underlying biological mechanisms, such as blood sugar and hormone levels, are major players in how we perceive our surroundings.

“Our work in parts of Malaysia and Africa has shown that in poorer environments where resources are scarce, people prefer a heavy body in a potential partner,” said Tovée. “If you live in an environment where food is scarce, being heavier means you have fat stored up as a buffer against a potential food reduction in the future, and that you must be higher social status to afford the food in the first place. Both of these are attractive qualities in a partner in those circumstances.”

I always thought black men preferred thick women like Beyoncé/Ashanti etc not fat.
Those 2 are what the majority of black men mean when they say thick. Or Chloe Bailey even. They don't mean Lizzo. That said, if Ashanti and Beyoncé were the sizes they are today when they first debuted they would be considered "fat" by the mainstream. They were already trying Beyoncé when she was in DC calling her fat.
I don’t think black women's obesity is their fault. It’s due to not understanding and prioritizing health and fitness then shaming men into accepting it.

I think ppl understand the basics of keeping their weight in a healthy arena, it's doing it that is the road block. That involves discipline and consistency, especially if fatness runs in your genes.

The BBLs and Lipo with aunty arms and wide backs have become the "easy" fix.

Because we don't like skinny minny bytches and don't harp over "b bu but my legacy is shyt cause she can't wear the size 4 dress at the corporate party".

Perfect example Ari Lennox was never at an "unhealthy" weight.

Right. Ari was never fat and neither was Doja, but the industry that they're in prioritizes thinner bodies, not necessarily regular sized bodies, which is what they had prior to weight loss.

If they were in their early 20's at their current size... they would be whales when they hit their late 30's...

Starting off slim was the only thing that saved them. Women naturally put on weight as they age. They only got to their perfect "thickness" because they used to be slimmer.

Well this isn't really my point even if I understand what you mean.

My point is that there IS a difference between mainstream standards and the Black community's standards. That Beyoncé and Ashanti (Bey specifically) was titled as fat even though she wasn't and was the exact definition of curvy. That is insane. I feel like Black ppl were always more accepting of women who were average sized. That 6-12 demo and I think that's okay and acceptable. I don't know BM to be excited to overly accepting of fat women like that.

And maybe this is more of a class issue like ppl are saying. That lower income folks don't necessarily have the same standards, idk. All I know is the fat girls in my primarily Black schools got teased, in college they were ignored a lot and as adults they date(d) but it's not the same as other women.

I haven’t made any argument. I’m simply highlighting theres a spectrum of women shapes and sizes. Just because she’s white doesn’t mean she’s kendall jenner skinny. Not sure why I have to explain this.

:dead:
This is known. You didn't have to explain it.

You probably need it explained to you

Im all for encouraging bw to get healthy, but why we gotta like skinny bone bytches cause other races do? Why put their standards on a pedestal? By your logic we shouldnt even like big booties at all considering all other races think that any woman with booty is fat
It’s not for them bruh. I’ve posted about it many times, dating women who are ‘thick’ —-unless it’s perfectly proportional—-you are running risk they let go of the rope at some point. I’ve dated a string of women fall into this category. Right down to the struggle to workout and lose weight. And they always got pics of them 5,10 years ago lookin thinner and good af which will make you even madder/resentful bc you gettin the great value version of her.

Then it becomes a job for you too bc you gotta ‘stay on her’.

And that’s if they don’t have kids. Once you factor in kids multiply by 10 you have no idea what direction that can go
