Why do people think the NBA doing USA vs World would be any different if it replaced the ASG?

This would be under a whole new circumstance and era. Make it official, hype it to death, and put the marketing machine behind it(ads, said countries involved, networks, music artists, Nike, Addias, Gatorade, AmEx, etc.) They can make this thing as big as they want to. It even makes 100x more sense than the mid season tournament they just started up.

the tournament thing in of itself wasn't bad, but it was just mixed in with a bunch of crap (and the teams themselves weren't known).

it won't work the same way this one off tournament did with the NFL (keep in mind, this hockey thing was a tournament) for a couple of reasons.

1. There's a big chunk of this country that doesn't get so patriotic with the men's basketball team for reasons we all know, so if they lose we'll take too much glee in humiliating them.

2. the American basketball world has proven that if it ain't the Olympics we don't give a shyt about international competition. FIBA World Cup in the summer and fans get super worried if their player goes and then when they lose to Canada it's "who gives a fukk about this competition, see ya in the Olympics." The Euros do this every year and we can't for the life of us understand why it's so important to them. We'd rather them rest.

The NHL killed it and not everyone on those 4 teams would have been all star.

People are going to tune in more if it's red white and blue vs other countries

The Rising Stars game was Team USA vs. The World from 2015 til the pandemic. It's not that the league didn't try it (and honestly those games were better than the actual ASG), but they probably didn't think it would merit the kind of success necessary to justify one for the real game.

I think the difference with this is there’s more leeway to pick a bunch of young “potential” stars and even rotational players just to fill out a roster since it doesn’t have as much prestige. I remember when the Rookie Game was East vs West consisting of all rookies. Not every one of those players ended up being stars. All Star Game is SUPPOSED to be the 12 best players from each conference.

Its not going to be full games necessarily, they gon take a page out of ice cube 3 on 3 book, and I think it would be more competitive than what they been doing lately, it’s going to be hard not to care when u on the floor the whole time, don’t let a “lesser” player get some shine on you

Get off your high horses. Its a good ideal straight up. It just did numbers and became a revelation for the NHL, it would would do the same and possibly be much bigger for the NBA. The foreigners will show up which means the Americans will be forced to. Its a win all the way around (the world). I say its happening next season. Why not. Every ideal should be on the table right now. They have nothing else to lose especially after this past debacle of an all star weekend.

East: Brunson, Donovan Mitchell, KD, etc
Midwest: Trae Young, LeBron, Tatum, etc
West: Dame, Harden, etc

Players would have more pride in repping for where they're from and showing who produces the best hoopers, with folks tuning in with a rooting interest in the games automatically.

Foreign players could do a foreign east vs west type thing, where everything from west Europe(France/Spain/etc) to the Caribbean is on one side while all the eastern European boys on into Asia are on the other

Everybody gets to rep where they're from forreal, not just what country they're citizens of

Respect for the creativity. But wouldnt you basically have the same teams every year? Does every region have enough guys? Do you even need to vote? Steph was born in the same hospital as Bron. Which creates another issue? We goin by where you was born or where you was raised? What about people that moved around?

honestly seems no different than an east vs west style allstar game which they moved away from.

USA vs World. Trying to create a fake rivalry but the players will still not be invested.

Only way to get the players to play hard is if the NBA allows the winner of the allstar mvp to add an extra W to their teams regular season record as a reward.
boom, the game actually matters now. Allstars are usually the highest paid on their roster so financially incentives aren't going to move the needle.
