you see & talk to 3 million+ people who downloaded GFID? just because "everyone you know" has downloaded it doesn't mean shyt. it certainly doesn't mean they liked it or kept it on the comp.

nikka the fukk you mean? :what: negged

That's the point of becoming a rapper. To sell records and make money. You can use those numbers to judge how popular a rapper really is.

but to use them to discredit something they dont like or to compare those sales to albums that came out 10 or 12 years ago is very pointless

Agreed. Record sales arguments are pointless in 2012. There's really not much difference between selling 150K and 250K the first week imo.

For instance, when people are saying Ross knocked Jeezy out his spot and people not fukking with him like that no more but sells more then Ross it says a lot. When people actually get off their ass and go into a store to buy a hard copy of your album, it shows how many true fans you have.

Cause it's the best quantitive measure out right now, you can't compare sales in absolute terms but in relative terms. So if one dude sells 5k it's safe to say that someone selling 50k is hotter. It's also about how much you push your album, how your fan base is split up like I can imagine that country artists have more fans that actually go to stores and buy CDs, pop & hiphop might have more iTunes fans, hiphop & electronic dance music more illegal bootleg fans, classic rock more fans that like your old shyt and go to your arena tours for the nostalgia etc.

So it's still a good measurement to see like Wale is obviously hotter or has a much more solid fan base than say B.O.B..

Yeah record sales don't matter. Unless you can use those sales to further stan your favorite rapper. But if the sales don't meet expectations then it's about the music. :lolbron:

Record sales aren't always a good measure of popularity. Ross sold more first week than Rihanna's last album but nobody would say Ross is more popular than Rihanna. Drake sold double what Beyonce last album sold first week but nobody thinks he's more popular than Beyonce

There's lots of variables to consider when you talk about record sales.

Rihanna has popularity for other reasons than her music though. And besides that you said record sales isn't a good measurement, record sales ≠ first week record sales. Rihanna's last album has sold 980k in the states (still counting) and 3-4 million worldwide. She has sold over 25 million with 6 albums world wide (don't forget that she's not even an American artist). She sold out 9 shows in a row in the same arena in London. But because of this iTunes thing, a lot of fans only buy the songs they like that's why Rihanna has sold 60 million singles or whatever the fukk.

Breh when the numbers come in, all those artists will sell millions world-wide. Ross is not in that league and record sales show that. One week don't mean shyt with superstars. Them mufukkas like Adele will pull 50k a week for 50 weeks straight and shyt.
