Why do people say modern Simpsons is trash?

There are gems in every season, but generally most episodes are decent to meh. Like others have said, rehashed plots but modernized (like doing the food critic thing, etc), too many pointless guest stars, and my personal pet peeve, the god damn moving time line. Like there was a flashback ep a few seasons ago that placed Homer having the kids around 2002 and shyt...

They should have cancelled the show and just started making movies after The Simpsons Movie came out and was a hit.
That way the writers wouldn't have to try and come up with 20something episodes of material every year that resulted in more duds than not.

I don't like how they changed Homer from a borderline scumbag into a "lovable oaf"

The show also seems to be too family friendly now.

Even if the show has regained some of its spark, it's been on for way too long. The show is still a shell of its former self which is sad to see because at its peak it was the greatest show in TV history.
