Why do people have different definitions of dark skin?

I have a co worker who swears she loves dark skin. One day she shows me a picture of her boyfriend and I’m ready because .. chocolate . That man was the same complexion as Will Smith .

I don't know where all the confusion came from but in my life the three BASIC complexions for Black people were dark-skin, brown-skin, and light-skin

of course there are a million different complexions with Black people, but it always gets complicated when you're trying to be specific as possible when describing a Black person's skin color

I noticed that too and said it on here before

it's like as time passed they erased brown-skin Black people and lump them in with either being dark-skin or light-skin

I don't know when this took place in our community but it's fairly recent
