Why do people expect kickers to make every single kick?

South Central Los Angeles So Wut U Wanna Do??
And NBA players have probably shot a basketball at least 100,000 times in their life.

You’re telling me they can’t make a shot with nobody guarding them at all, from a pre determined spot on the floor 100% of the time? :why:

Nobody is guarding them
Nobody else is even touching the ball

Why can’t they make them at a 100% clip?
No one is expecting anyone to do anything 100% of the time…it’s egregious to have 1 job and not be able to be better than 50%…basketball players have at minimum 5 things they’re great at that keeps them on the floor…free throws are forgiven…a kicker practices one thing week in and week out….do ur damn job idiot kicker :yeshrug:

to be fair the 50% job thing is a flawed argument because it doesnt apply to every sport in the same way

ie, if a designated hitter in baseball hit .500 hed be the best hitter of all time. and hitting the ball is literally the only job he has.

but with every sport and a play theres expectation based on how well the average player does. and hitting kicks that are between 0 and 50 is something that an average kicker in the NFL does well

no one expects kickers to make every single kick or anything, but people do expect around 80%. people expect every XP to be made too because its a chip shot and it has a very high make rate.

That standard only applies to extra points and chip shot FGs
Better comparison might be someone missing point blank layups (vs them missing 3 pointers which would be kicks 50+ yards)
I do agree that kickers get bushed with the quickness, seems like you either become a legendary kicker or you have a short career
Dudes like Alex Henery came in with hype, had a couple hot years then was :camby: after a couple of bad games

So. Cal
I’m not defending egregious performances like going 0/4 or 0/5 or 1/6. :hubie:

But if a dude goes 3/6 or 2/4 people will call it a bad day and he should get cut? Why?

Best comparison is a free throw frfr.

So kickers are supposed to make every kick under extreme pressure with 11 people running straight towards them, but an NBA player can miss 30% of his wide open shots from a set spot with nobody guarding him?

I mean realistically, expecting a kicker to make every kick, especially every game winning kick is dumb. That’s a ridiculous standard to have for a task that’s dependent on so many other variables you can’t account for

Compare field goals to free throws brehs :mjlol:

A kicker has 2 jobs…kickoffs and field goals literally nothing else…why the fukk are u on the team if u can’t do your job…

If shaq only did half of his job he wouldn’t be on the team… free throws at the most were 20% of shaq’s job the other 80% he did better than anyone in history

Free throws do not equal field goals :dahell:
I agree with you but let me play devil's advocate for a second. With field goals there's a lot of other factors involved. Bad snap, bad hold, wind. But with free throws it's just you

people are avoiding factors like center's snap, place holder timing and placeholder placement, wind, weather conditions, snap count, defensive pressure, distance, angle, etc.

like most people in this thread, factors are going to be ignored so they can just blame the person who's kicking

Depends on the distance. A kicker shouldn't be missing chip shots and DEFINITELY not extra points. I don't think anyone would be trippin if a kicker missed a 50+ yard kick on a windy day.
