Why do people brag on how shytty their hood is?

You hear dudes talking about "yeah we got the highest homicide rate in the country " or "ya'll city soft, ya'll aint got no killas like round here" as if they are proud of that.

I grew up on Southwest Houston where nikkas got popped at the corner store and in the apartments all the time. shyt wasn't cool hearing gun shots and police choppers at night while you trying to go to sleep.

I understand taking pride in being from the hood because in a way it does build character and values you don't learn from living in the burbs (depending on how you look at it), but some dudes really brag on living in a shythole.

nyggas like to act like the shyt is somehow impervious but if you glorify dealin and killin, how "real" you are, how dangerous your hood is etc. what else can you expect but people to embrace that??? this shyt evokes feelins just like any other music, but people dont stop to actually question they feelins they have. i seen somebody last night post music from a chief keef's crew and he said it make him feel like puttin a gun to somebody mouth. what's the feelin you get when you hear some shyt like "hard in da paint" or "luv dem gun sounds"??? now how would a white boy listenin to heavy metal told how it make him feel like slashin somebody throat?


we bein taught to embrace everything that's destroyin us. at 16 years old, all chief keef really rap about is his clique and how he'll kill a nikka and yet he's the biggest thing comin outta chicago-- the most murderous city in the country. but nyggas rock to it like it's fun... its gon take a hard look in the mirror but one day people are finally have to admit someday that we got a serious problem
