Used to think about this when I was younger and trying to understand the appeal of anime

How should japanese people draw themselves?:patrice:

Japanese definitely have some c00n tendencies from what I've seen. It ain't even their skin color because there's other traits. The worse is they try to say if everyone had the same looks no one would look different. Nonsense, there's plenty of Japanese drama live actions where no one is confused on who is who. I think it's to attract westerners.

That's how they think Japanese people look. They draw white people differently in Anime. Big chins/jaws/noses etc. It’s actually weird that they’re pretty accurate when portraying white facial features but draw themselves in such a strange way.

I think some give cacs get too much credit as far as what's looking "white" in anime/manga. They are definitely animes where characters have a more cac phenotype, also ones that look like typical jap/asian. The notion that if you draw characters unconventionally they're automatically white is funny to me.

Aren't those dudes south-korean idols though last time I checked koreans and the Japanese were 2 different ethnic groups.

So... you think the characters look more Japanese?

Those examples aren’t supposed to be literal and I said Asians, not any specific nationality. The point is, the artists want Asians to look one way, but they look the other.

Given that anime in general is an over the top medium ,the big eyes thing is most likely used to ferment that intensity by giving characters more emotional range.

Hair color is either a stylistic choice and/or a way to get the viewer to better recognize different characters in lazy shows that use the same design aspects like Naruto where damn near everybody has a similar mouth and head shape.

There are anime that show more how they look but it's mainly sienen or manga meant for adults
