Nah people will go in on Mamas and other family members too....especially if they trying to up the ante. Usually happens when they really want to fight or break somebody. Happens all the time especially if they know your family.

It's weird how certain posters always try to make it a competition.
There's "joning" in Angolan culture, especially in the south. But it's usually done amongst kids in Angola, not adults (unless you're a comedian, in which it's cool since you get paid for it). It's also not as on steroids as in the US. Y'all just be doing too much honestly, but it's funny I guess. 
Since you're so interested, here's the natural progression of things in my corner of Africa: in school in every classroom there would be a kid that could let anybody (yes including teachers and adults) get it, until you'd reach college. Then that kid would disappear and give place to a more light type of joner; one that hits but not too hard and usually not about anything personal. Sometimes even as artful constructive criticism that can get even the offended party to laugh. That would be the end goal for anybody that enjoys joning because most people then become attracted to them due to not only their comedy but also for their attention to detail.
'Cause bottom line engaging in raw (here meaning no restrictions) verbal tit-for-tats as an adult has no benefits for either party.
People don't like to be laughed at beyond the ice breaking level because there's no growth in it really.
Also – and this is just a theory but – at least from what I've learned having a thick skin is heavily reliant on your level of care for other people. The least you care about somebody the thicker your skin because there's nothing that person can say that you'll even find worth entertaining...same way you don't entertain ants when you see them walking outside. Or the same way c00ns don't entertain other blacks that are trying to tell them how to live their lives and trying to convince them that all white people are evil.
