The only time I ever hear her name brought up is when someone( usually Caucasian) is trying to discredit Tina Turner

That whole era 60's-70's was about reinvention because so many musicians singers and bands put new life into what they.came up on...Behind all his gear and clothes Jimi was a bluesman and all the vets from Buddy Guy. to.Albert Collins loved where he was takin that thing and wanted to jam with him... Just listen to stuff like Hear My Train A Comin (Acoustic) Red House, Hey Joe, Voodoo Chile (Long Version) ..Janis had it too in Move Over, Work Me Lord, Summertime, Bobby McGhee

Its nice you like that shyt, I don't apparently my pops didn't either. Its okay

I dont like her music and I also was confused about her having "soul"
I talked to my pops about this myth and he said that is white folks stuff.
Then again my pops also said Jimi Hendricks was on that white folks stuff, so maybe I should ask someone else.
:ld:

More like Jimi Hendrix took some black folks stuff to white folks and white folks called it some new shyt. Jimi Hendrix used to play on the R&B and Blues circuit backing up bands, before he landed with the Isley Brothers and they fired his ass.

Before he was a headliner, Jimi Hendrix was a hired hand
Ernie Isley remembers Jimi Hendrix

A fleeting childhood
Janis was beautiful in that she took those blues she loved and made them her own
She also claimed black musicians didn't take the blues to another level and they were holding back.

:mjpls: I will try to find the quote.

I tried looking for the quote, but its mentioned on episode 3 of Jack Hamilton presents Pop, Race & the 60s. She had a lot of :mjpls: in her veins
Introducing “Pop, Race, and the ’60s”: A Slate Academy

Janis was screeching and is touted as mythical hero when we all know : was NOT a soulful rendition of Erma Franklin's song.

Someone singing with precision & purpose>>> random screeching

No I was using artist who were doing soul music at the time of 1960s (when Janis was around) that pioneered Soul music.

Sorry but Dusty Springfield had more "soul" than her.

They say her influence was blues music but she does not sound like these dudes either.

Somebody influencing somebody doesn't mean they'll sound just like them. In fact, isn't it better that she put her own spin on it? Plenty of acts that blatently ripped shyt off. Elvis comes to mind. But go after who you wanna. Definition of reach and plat fishing. Really went after Janis Joplin. The Coli never disappoints nor surprises me.
