I dont know where all this psychoanalysis is coming from. She was just a sex symbol. She died early, so her beauty is sort of eternal. Shes like the female equivalent of James Dean, for people who like to obsess over mid 20th century pop culture.

I havent seen this phenomenon of people quoting her. I always assumed it was all about her beauty...not that she was some moral and intellectual touchstone for women.

This is actually a huge myth. Fat chicks always say that she was a size 14 and therefore they are just like Marilyn Monroe, because like, numbers, bro. In reality she was a size 6 or 8 by today's measurements, neither of which are anywhere near approaching fat by normal standards.
