As we know, house/edm music is black music. most black music has origins in the South obviously but house developed in Chicago and later Detroit, Newark, NJ, and NYC (where it and derivatives remain popular).

what was it about these cities that facilitated house music to develop?

what about places like Atlanta and Miami?

i dont think atlanta was out like that back then. miami took off with electro shyt in the early/mid 80s. bass music, electro, all that 808 heavy shyt contributed to the current sound of hip hop.

i wouldnt consider miami part of 'the south' even considering its geographical location. miami has been on par with other major metropolitan cities such as la, chicago, ny, detroit...

The South didn't have a huge nightclub scene like those cities.

This is why hip hop grew in NYC, as well

In the South partying wasn't being done all over the place, until the early morning

Yeah, atl wasn't gay capital back then. Things changed after the olympics went there in 1996, and Outkast/Goodie Mob/Organized Noize got big, Atlanta got more media attention.

Miami is still the south, in the 80's they wasn't making any noise with the electro music, it was L.A. that was coming up with that sound. Plus, Miami, and Atl, both was about booty music. That sound was an off shoot of "planet rock" by Afrika Bambatta, and the soulsonic force. L.A. Atl, and Miami kept that style while NYC moved on, which is why rap stayed in NYC. It wasn't until Ice-t, and NWA, that things changed for L.A., and the rap style of boom bap became part of L.A.

With Miami, it really didn't change until Poison Clan, Home team, Society, Mother Supreme, and officially with Trick Daddy. 2 live crew was a mix of booty music, and classic rap.

With Atl, it was Kriss Kross, a group with a guy with dreads, and a fat guy, I forget their name, then Outkast.

The city or the people? AAs from Miami is just as AA as other AAs in the south. Just listen at how they talk. Look at Trick Daddy. Even a lot of the carribean nikkas down there talk like traditional AAs from the south? Listen at Luke that nikka country as hell, esp when he screaming on records.

Yeah, Miami is the south to me, the DEEP south at that.

Like you said Luke got a heavy accent, and his parents are from the Caribbean. Going by his book, and watching "cocaine cowboys", Miami didn't really come up as we know it today until the 80's with the drug money. Even then it wasn't for blacks, that's why he made his pacjam club.

Atlanta is the home of bands ..dazz band..sos..college bands..church bands

House and EDM was too repetitive in the Sonic sense....

For ATL sensibilities...

And yes the GAY scene evolved AFTER soulful house prime..

ATL clubs was into traditional r&b and funk

And when MIAMI BASS erupted in the mid to late 80s..

ATL BASS SCENE DOMINATED WITH TONY MERCEDES ..SO SO DEF..EDWARD J AND SHY D

THERE WAS NO NEED FOR HOUSE

Cause ATL is a car culture and the bass of Miami and ATL was more fitting than EDM

it's because they (northern blacks) embraced electronics/synthetic music more than the south which is mainly about acoustic instrumentation and roots genres

They partied in the south but the setting was different. They were more like blues clubs, juke joints and jazz ballrooms/halls

rather than the Discos of the North
