Post I read on Reddit:

you know, i always found the entire idea that WY wanted the xenomorph for its "weapons division" firstly a cliche and secondly eminently implausible.

they have FTL travel; they have superhuman androids indistinguishable from human beings -- do they really have a gap in an arsenal that can destroy an entire planet with a 10kg projectile or kill or even replace any individual with an assassin or duplicate?

what does a xenomorph have that would really be useful and worth the risk weapons-wise?

What do you guys think of the potential of Xenomorphs as weapons?

But why are they worth anything? They had mad weapons in that timeline

you can only go upward i guess in stupidity...burke was gonna do anything to bring an alien back for study, even after seeing first hand how dangerous these murderous roaches are...:mjlol: even in alien Resurrection they was trying to get an alien they could control and the horrors of doing it, they didnt care...:scust: had a pregnant queen all in the ship...

I always thought that the idea of Weyland wanting xenomorphs as weapons made sense just because it would given them a nearly unkillable bioweapon that wouldn't cost nearly as much as it takes to manufacture the standard weapons they were already using.

So if they got into a land war instead of having to hire and train soldiers then manufacture the weapons they would use, Weyland could just drop a platoon of xenomorphs on the battlefield and have them go ham on the enemy.

The thing that always bothered me about this though was that in order for the xenomorphs to be an effective weapon they would need to be controlled and they never really showed anything in the movies that would explain how Weyland would control even after it was obvious that xenomorphs would be uncooperative as fukk.

There should have been some kind of mind control technology as a major part of the franchise to show that Weyland was prepared to have total control over the xenomorphs once they acquired them.

It never made any sense to me but to be fair it didn't need to be explored in the movies beyond "plot device". After all it's a horror series so Weyland's motives weren't the focal point of the story.

It's possible it was explained in the EU of the Alien franchise.

They were supposed to be the ultimate Alpha predator in the entire universe, but the nonsense part comes in terms of how you control them. Maybe they just wanted to bring one back to study how it operated and derive weapons or controllable clones from it? It was retro-sci-fi aesthetic so while they were advanced they were still using DOS based computers
