There is an entire generation of people that were raised on Nelly. They are defending Nelly like an old head would defend KRS. I get that 100%
Sadly hip-hop doesn't give a fukk about your past success. Nelly going plat 10 years ago is about as relevant as KRS going plat 25 years ago. Once your prime is over, you're done.
Instead of approaching it rationally like you just did, they're still trying to sell Nelly as "that guy". Bragging about he's opening for New Kids On The Block. He's done, breh. And once you're done, there is no varying degrees. Nobody says "who is more relevant, Hammer or Ja Rule?"

The way I saw it KRS was picking on Nelly because he saw Nelly as the sole representation as to how "shyt" hip hop went in the year 2000. The "he stole my song #1" shyt was just some bullshyt he made up as an excuse to vent his frustrations towards Nelly.
