I liked Nappy Heads, and Vocab....well, at least Lauryn's verse. Wyclef's style took some getting used to and Pras was trash. But the album was not good at all. There were no real standout tracks...if Nappy heads is the standout, there's a problem. Boof Baf was hella dated when it came out but I actually didn't hear/see the video until after Nappy Heads. And that ish sounded like bad '92

i haven't even heard this album in like 25 years.

Same here. I bought it off the strength of Nappy Heads and Vocab and if I’m not mistaken, I don’t think they even used the video version of Vocab for the album. I literally forgot cause I haven’t heard the album in years

Cause it was wack.

I played the Score nonstop for months when it came out so I am a mega fan.

The Score. Midnight Marauders. 36 Chambers. The Infamous.

These are the albums that went into the tape deck and got played back to back to back. For months on end. I've liked plenty of other albums but these are the only ones I remember being totally obsessed with.

So I'm a Fugees fan.

But their first joint wasn't it. The Vocab remix is where I believe things started to click.

It’s almost like this album has been retconned from existence :russ:

There are a large segment of rap fans who think the score is their only album :mjlol:
I feel like this album, Naughty By Nature's album Independent Leaders and Mobb Deep's Juvenile Hell are the most "Wait...that's their debut???" albums of all-time

Similar to Juvenile Hell. They needed time to find their identity and “sound”

I think we forget that most of these rappers were both young and breaking lots of new ground as artists. They were 18-19 when Blunted On Reality came out. For every Nas, who was a wunderkind coming into the game knowing EXACTLY who he was and represented there were other artists who needed time to find what made them special.

Hell Reasonable Doubt didn’t set the world on fire when it dropped and Jay-Z was 26 with years and years of harnessing his skills beforehand.

Thats why proper A&Ring was extremely important back then.

I’m just glad artists like Fugees, Mobb Deep, etc were able to get second chances. The Score proved they had what it took they just needed to find themselves and when they did not only did we get The Score, but The Carnival and Miseducation. Hell even Pras gave us Ghetto Superstar which is a classic single.
I’ve said this many times. Finding say a Billie Eilish is rare… the Sza’s/ Bruno’s need time to find their sound and identity
