Why can't we promote annual mental health check-ups as a requirement of legal gun ownership? Good now doesn’t mean good forever...

every gun purchase comes with a mandatory police interview.

stop into your local field office police department, interview with a government psychologist

have it even be recorded so both parties can dispute a purchase with evidence.
It would effing create so many jobs for all those liberal arts majors with psychology degrees.

Subsidized by the wealthiest government in the world.

That’s new gun purchases and doesn’t already solve the ones on the streets.

It also doesn’t solve the problem that in some towns there are more guns than police officers as a lot of these small towns don’t even have a police force.

With work breh.

Hard work.

The rich politicians might actually have to earn their wages/positions.

Letting things lie as they do, in a world where money goes way less far, and poverty is debilitating so stresses are heightened and gun ownership is a thing, is a recipe for exactly what we're experiencing as a country.
You sure putting a lot of faith in these lobbyist and corporations to do the right thing when all the signs show otherwise

Exactly, to be honest with the entire federal mental health care system needs to be revived

It would have stopped this shooting in a sensitive place

there are multiple ways to tackle this problem. deal with new purchases first. It would have red flagged this shooter's father. Now what they would have done with that info, idk. But at least there is potential at investigation.

Guns already on the street is a different matter all together, but there is no such thing as one size fits all gun control policy `

How when the kid got the gun from pops as what tends to happen in a lot of these school shootings?

son threatens to shoot up school -> fbi interview of father regarding sons threats -> father purchases firearm as "present" to son

It is in the third stanza where the bureaucratic process of the government should have done its job.

Thats where a second interview comes in and even the son can be interviewed in regards to threats and behavior to verify motive, access and capability

This is the whole purpose of a denial of purchases due to background check comes into play....

I mean that it is technically what happened and it’s on record that it did. You obviously haven’t been reading up on the situation.

Your beef should be with the FBI and government as they had the opportunity the year before to prevent the situation from happening, but did.

Pops needs to catch some charges along with the son as well.

no thats not what happened, the fbi interviewed for the threats, local police interviewed as part of threats, but there were no interviews due to the firearms purchase

You still haven’t answered my question of who is going to enforce it when some towns don’t even have the manpower to do it?

its simple, if the seller of firearms purchase does not refer the purchase for a background check and interview they are committing a felony and risk imprisonment and a large fine.

It doesnt matter how long the process takes.

That would also slow down the straw purchasers as well since they cant just walk in and out with a firearm anymore

Again so how does that stop guns already on the street? You’re talking about new purchases.

That also doesn’t stop them from buying them for other people because in some states it’s legal to have a gun without a license.

Guns on the street are far more complex, but once you establish a choke point up stream, it will slow down the circulation of illicit firearms

What would be your solution?
