I know about that story...back then I get that the 90s was the era that sparked the "black women want thugs" trope but I'm not of the belief that a Will Smith type dude (tall, handsome, comedically inclined, not hood but from the hood) could not have a black woman/black women, he just had to be more specific. But after he really blew up, and again in the post-Kanye era? Those type of dudes have been doing just fine. Denzel wasn't hood and in the same era was the standard, the only thing separating Denzel and Will as far as demeanor was age so Denzel wasn't hip-hop.

No I think that women have an issue with DARK SKINNED black men deciding to date white women. Had Drake been MBJ's complexion - he wouldn't have been this successful (which is a fact and something no black woman will admit but it's a fact) but also they would've lost their minds over this white girl he's got a kid with. It's a double standard for light skinned/mixed race dudes like Drake vs a dark skinned brother like MBJ. I don’t think that’s a 100% true but we need to work on how black women and black men are portrayed in the media. Every time I see a black couple on tv there is always blatant disfunction. This sends a message to black kids. Same thing with the promotion of interracial marriages in the media. First it was heavily targeted at black boys and now it is heavily targeted at black girls.

Exactly this. He has all the benefits of being black and the chicks dig that he's so sensitive. But that he skeets in a different groupie and that many of them are white - that's cool.
