Why are there barely any young black adults in church?

Because pimping Jesus isn’t the wave. And if churches aren’t gonna minister to people in good and bad weather, they forget that fancy clothes don’t make you worthy of getting to heaven. When Inwent to church back in the day I used to just cry and keep it moving, now I can barely sit through sermons. Truthfully a lot of pastors hold it down but they have to actually be willing to engage young people in an accessible way. People need community more than an actual edifice at this point and pastors need to be prepared to help with practical things beyond Sundays and special rituals. They still sweep a lot of stuff under the rug in the name of the greater good and get mad when people don’t want to rock with it. Acceptance of people as Christ did means just that, ACCEPTANCE but also active positive solutions to people’s issues. I read too many damn books to seek salvation in a specific church, but I don’t mind communing with people and hearing what a preacher or my “neighbor” has to say. I’m a hypocrite of the highest order because I’m over that turn the other cheek shyt but I can still rest on Sundays.

The black community in particular suffers from a lot of historical trauma that churches neglect to address as institutions, speeches won’t rectify all of them at all.

I disagree with the posters saying church doesn't have nothing to offer young black people. It depends on the church. I actually just became a member of a church I started going to when I moved to Charlotte(back in Feb) and at this church, it's nothing but young people--mostly people in their early twenties through thirties. There are older people too, but this is by far a very young church. What the church offers is a family that watches out for you, helps you to make more principled decisions(not making decisions based on what the world is doing), and the church I go to teaches you to focus on "we" not "you"--so you learn to be selfless to not be so consumed with yourself, but with helping others. We do local services for the community(volunteering), we disciple(go out to places within Charlotte to speak to people about Jesus), and we connect with each other--like a family. We get advice on problems we're having, and get on point messages to and great worship music. My church is also 90% black.

I can't speak to why other young people aren't going, but with the way this world is(in 2018), I'd say that more young people need God, this is just my opinion. I wasn't raised in the church, and up until two years ago I was not a believer. I was like f*** church and thought it all was stupid--I was not about to get up early on Sunday. But it was turning to God, and going to Church that helped me find peace, make better decisions, stop being so focused on my own problems, and to just be a better person to others that I meet on the daily basis. It's also helped me to endure trials, and to not need to be validated by others opinions, it's helped raise my self worth(the way I see myself). That's not to say that going to church will do this for everyone--I do think it depends on the Church you go to. There were a few churches I went to in Philly, that I never felt at home, or comfortable with the people, the sermons, or the overall culture. A lot of the young people at my church, have provided plenty of testimonies about how once they started going and committing to it, they stopped with the clubbing and shyt, and all the things that were keeping them from going in the first place, and just making better decisions in general. And these are black men I'm talking about(young ones too) so I think, that the church can offer what you invest in it, once you find the right one.

If they simply took out the religion and made it more spiritual based along with mental health/community programs, shyt would be better...

And all that dressing up isn't the wave..
I don't need to be in a suit to praise God..

The black church has become equivalent to the conservative base of the Republican party..

They are stuck in the past with an elitist mindset, while those in power are doing the same dirt they look down on others for..:francis:

My church has counselors that work with members on whatever issue they have, for free. No one has to dress up either, we wear jeans, and whatever else we want. The church is supposed to be, come as you are anyway.

And nah, not every church is stuck on that. Stop with the generalizing, it's ignorant--when's the last time you went to a church, or went to different churches to see what they offer? Before I went to my church, I found plenty of churches that were like you described, but I also found churches that had late services(12:00 PM noon services, or Saturday 5 PM services), and people could wear jeans if they wanted to(most did), and there were counseling services for members--they also had a lot of other aspects that are more modern and are a lot different from how church used to be in the past. So, again, like I mentioned in another post, it highly depends on the church you go to. Some are good, some aren't, but to say the church in general is bad--I don't agree at all.

Also it ain't the end times just because your life is fukked up. Sorry. I find people who constantly scream 'end times last days' are miserable ass people and the thought of it all crashing down gives them some dark solace.

What happened to 'no man knows the hour?' Only applies when the finger isn't pointed at them I guess.
demascus is in ruin, Eurphrates river drying up, earthquakes in various places, crazy weather patterns, what more do you want?

Your church is an outliner..And you know that...

If the congregation is mostly baby boomer era types, that shyt is a dub..

Haven't been to church since 2005, but I already know that most of these old heads are stuck in the past...
