Why are so many countries expanding their presence in the red sea?

That video was 100 percent fake :russ: Im pretty sure it was taped in Hargeisa itself, someone paid Yemeni refugees to read that and printed out SL flags. The new President said he would review the deal, so they may be trying to set the justification for the cancellation.

The Houthis are backward, but not that backward. The control Sabaa (Yemens state news agency) Salehs old satellite channel and Al Masirah their own channel. Every time they threaten Saudi or the UAE they broadcast it all over their channels.... nothing like that weird video with some random Yemenis with covered faces (they have no reason to conceal their identity)

They said they would destroy hargeisa bilaa naxariis :damn::damn::damn:

I hope it was fake :dead:

SL is 100 percent screwed if they fire scuds at it, but they get little out of doing that as far as their political goals go.

Eritrea is already used as a staging post for Saudi and the UAE and they've shrugged it off.

From what I see its mainly the UAE thats unhappy about it, because they have an especially antagonistic relationship with Turkey.

A senior UAE diplomat said on Wednesday that the Arab world would not be led by Turkey, the Gulf state's first comment on Ankara since a quarrel broke out last week over a retweet by the Emirati foreign minister that President Tayyip Erdogan called an insult.

Anwar Gargash, the UAE minister of state for foreign affairs, said there is a need to rally around the "Arab axis" of Saudi Arabia and Egypt to ward off regional powers that wish to expand their influence at the expense of the Arab world.

"The Arab world will not be led by Tehran or Ankara," he wrote on his official Twitter page.

:heh: :manny:

They're our neighbours for better or worse they will always play a role in Somalia. Just have to learn to leverage it the right way.

Historically what role have they played?

They never used to overreach themselves like this. It seems to stem out of a desire of the Emirati Crown Prince to play big shot in the region. UAE is just violating across the board and need to be brought down a size. They're causing havoc in Somalia, Libya, Yemen, Qatar...tried Turkey.

These laangaab khaleejis breh :snoop:

Military powers :mjlol:

They're awash with petrodollars and want to glow up. UAE is like the world’s third-largest importer of arms...have engaged former CIA officers to build them a modern spy agency..copping ports and bases across the region....he's introduced conscription for his langaab population and got some of them merked in Yemen lol.

Bro being under the influence of a world power is one thing...but being under the sphere of someone who's under the sphere of someone else is ridiculous. You're signed to one nikka thats signed to another nikka that's signed to another nikka.

Ever since they made that deal with Blackwater and got those Latin American mercenaries, they've been acting like they're some type of super power:francis:

Flexing their muscles around the world.

These Somali regions and politicians who are cutting deals with irrelevant countries like UAE instead of major players like China or even Turkey :snoop:

The khaleejis are totally clueless about how to position themselves globally. Show me one geopolitical problem that they've successfully solved. They're idiots. You can't throw your support behind these buffoons.

Literally every major problem that they face today from Iran, to the rise of the Houthis, to the mess in Iraq and Syria, was a result of these idiots completely miscalculating everything.

They've strengthened Iran's hand by getting rid of Morsi in Egypt (was anti Iranian), backing the Iraqi invasion without at least having a plan that would insure that Saddam would be replaced by a "friendly" government, etc..

They've never had a holistic plan for how they would position themselves strategically. Instead they've been putting out one forest fire after the other. For decades their plan was to simply follow what Baba Amreeka dictated without asking questions, and now they find themselves in a multipolar world and they're beginning to panic. :mjlol:

Yeah it's been like that since the beginning of time, but for the last 3-5 years all the countries have been dramatically increasing their presence there. shyt is like a new gold rush. :francis:

Turkey has a military base in Mogadishu and now they have to deal with Sudan. The UAE has a base in Berbera (Somaliland) where it is also expanding the port as well as the port in Bosaso (Puntland). The UAE also has a presence in Yemen. Qatar is in Eritrean. In Djibouti you have a gazillion military bases as usual, China is a recent addition. China has projects all over Ethiopia.

Why all this interest now? :ohhh:

Like I said its a strategic position in that area of the world and always had been since antiquity. Its basically the getaway to the indian ocean. Why do you think the international community went HAM on Somali pirates while not doing jack to those Delta region Nigerian pirates? Plus the red sea seems to be a getaway into Africa for China.

But those Horn Nations and Sudan need to play smart imo/

Yes the overreach and (attempted) power projection is a new thing, I just meant Somalia has always had trade and migratory linkages (in both directions) with the Arabian Peninsula just based on geographic proximity.

@Misreeya how do you feel about the recent deal between Sudan and Turkey? What's the general mood in Sudan and the Arab speaking world? I hear that the Arabs in the Gulf and elsewhere aren't too happy about it and are cursing Sudan :mjlol:

That is a pretty interesting question. Looking a some comments in Sudanese forums, some are very much for it, while others are taking a wait and see approach, whether it materialize as stated is anyone guess. But in life, or people i normally talk to, they are kind of negative, anything with Omar Bashir they hate, or they view with skepticism. These are normally communist, atheist, secular oriented Northern Sudanese, and their only wish is for this regime to fall, or at least killing all of them.
