Why are coaches still doing that icing the kicker BS?

jayfeely: If you are dumb enough to call time out close to the kick we are going to take a practice kick to get the nerves out

exactly. :smugfavre:

i bet you that trend disappears starting next year. all of these special teams coaches are teaching their units to follow thru with the kick. in a domed stadium, there's no way bryant was going to miss two in a row.

He didn't even call a timeout he said he didn't want one.

I don't think he was asking who called timeout. He was ticked off that Bryant was allowed to still kick a practice kick well after the whistle had been blown.

These coaches need to realize that if they're going to call a timeout, the other team is not going to wait for it, they're going to use it to get a pracitce kick off.

Carroll waited until the kicker was just into his motion these timeouts aren't instantaneous what was the kicker supposed to do really when he was already in motion? Had he made it the kick still wouldn't have counted. Just Pete and his sour grapes.

Like that actually will stop a FG kicker from making it
Who started this crap anyway?

It has roughly the same success rate as the hail mary so I doubt it's going anywhere. Seahawks had a failed icing the kicker and a fail mary, Carroll pulled out all the high risk plays that rarely work.........but when they do:whew:

pretty much. if you're going to do it, you have to do it before their unit is set. i'd call it before the center gets his hands on the ball. all bets off once the center has the ball.

it never "works", its a guessing game. id rather just attempt to block the kick and let the chips fall where they may.

its just something thats become popular because youre supposedly not just sitting there youre doing "something" when in actuality you might as well have a streaker run out on the field prior to the kick wearing a kids sized scott norwood jersey.

Icing the kicker is gay, but kickers shouldn't be allowed to get a practice kick off on the field.

It happened in the Ravens game, and it happened today. That's gay as hell
