Jokes aside, this is actual a popular argument among some regarding the Civil War and slavery. Some say slavery would have resolved itself in time. Of course they downplay black people's suffering all the while, in the way they never do to groups like Jews, but that's just schematics I guess.

and those I hear that make that claim point out more people died in the civil war than would have died under 10 more years of slavery. Where they get the idea slavery only had 10 or so more years left I dunno.
