It's beginning to finally get cold on the east coast, which is when I stay inside and get a ton of reading done in my free time. Some great time can be spent on cold days chillen with a good book, some coffee and some herbals

We need some more literature discussions in here and I think this is a good topic to get out into the ether.

I've been a die hard Kurt Vonnegut fan since I discovered his stuff about 6 years ago. Own and have read just about everything he's ever written but am holding off on reading Sirens of Titan and Hocus Pocus until next Summer.

As far as my favorite, I'm torn between Cat's Cradle and Bluebeard

Cat’s Cradle is Kurt Vonnegut’s satirical commentary on modern man and his madness. An apocalyptic tale of this planet’s ultimate fate, it features a midget as the protagonist, a complete, original theology created by a calypso singer, and a vision of the future that is at once blackly fatalistic and hilariously funny. A book that left an indelible mark on an entire generation of readers, Cat’s Cradle is one of the twentieth century’s most important works—and Vonnegut at his very best.

Broad humor and bitter irony collide in this fictional autobiography of Rabo Karabekian, who, at age seventy-one, wants to be left alone on his Long Island estate with the secret he has locked inside his potato barn. But then a voluptuous young widow badgers Rabo into telling his life story—and Vonnegut in turn tells us the plain, heart-hammering truth about man’s careless fancy to create or destroy what he loves

I could list at least 5 others to argue as his best or my favorite, but that's not what this is for.

Who do you guys need to read obsessively and what are their pinnacle pieces of writing? I'm looking to expand my literature horizons and find another author as great as Vonnegut. Share your thoughts brehs/brehettes

It's about anuprising in 19th century Brazil

This guy has some amazing books. His writing can be funny as fukk and brutal as fukk.
His writng style is kind of comlpicated at first, it's like a tarantino movie... but once you get used to it :blessed:

I like this thread. :obama:

I don't know about authors but there is a book thread some where in this forum and there is alot of good books suggested.

Here it is

Books - what are you reading? (Official Book Thread)
I've been in that thread before. It is a great thread. Great things happen in there thanks to great people doing hugely great things for readers of books (

)

I felt like this is a little different because hopefully favorite author/book recommendations are stronger. I'm currently reading a few books that I'm somewhat indifferent about. So me telling you what I'm reading isn't the same as telling you what I love to read. Feel me?

Mark Twain. The best is The Prince and the Pauper. Perfect tale of "grass ain't greener on other side"
My pops gave me Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and I haven't gotten around to it. A lot of people liken Vonnegut to being a modern day Twain so props breh :salute:

I have brought this books at least 7 times because everytime I buy one it disappears :beli:

It has great imagery and it's not only about sex it's about Multiple Personality Disorder & how black people handle mental illnesses; along with simply reaching out for help with them. I get sad to think the book may never become a movie after how they did Addicted (the prequel). I read this book at least once a year. I even have it as one of my few books in my Audible library.

George Pelecanos.

.... and since I can't decide on a favorite book I'm going to say his DC Quartet series is my favorite.

The Big Blowdown
King Suckerman
The Sweet Forever
Shame the Devil.

... plus he wrote the best episodes of The Wire and Treme in my opinion.

The Red Wheelbarrow is a pretty dope and trippy book, but you need to have seen Mr Robot season's 1 and 2 to read it
