Eminem is one of the best ones. People wanna listen to beats instrumental to determine if it’s good or not.

Em worked with Dr Dre to make music, not beats. And his beat selection aligned with his music perfectly in his early career.

We don’t need Dj Mustard beats for songs like Marshall Mathers or til I collapse

People say that same shyt about Nas and other ultra lyrical rappers too. Unless it was like Primo, Rza or Pete beats

Personally I prefer a scaled down Bass brothers beats than a Timbaland beat for an ultra lyrical emcee. But of course if we’re talking instrumentals or shyt for the club, or rnb etc. It’s another story

There's a way to do stripped down, skeletal beats that are still dope i.e. Clipse's entire Hell Hath No Fury album. There are a lot of skeletal, stripped down Timbaland beats that are classic. Same for Dre. Storch has some as well.
