Bill Cosby was the most recognizable dad, but Uncle Phil embodied Black Excellence as a father, dude really treated Will like he was his own son even though he and dark skinned Aunt Viv were hard on him at times it was only so he could be the best he could be and not skate by on his good looks and charm.

who I miss breh.... and I agree overall Phil didn't forget where he came from, but he had his lapses at times.

In that first season Phil absolutely forgot where he came from. He was lying about his background, had permanently switched up how he talked, and was fronting like he grew up cultured and had a love of classic music:
There was even an episode where he was acting like he was ashamed of his parents and was lying about growing up on a farm.
As the show went on he stopped denying his root,s but for most of that first season
As a 80s kid, I'm leaning towards Bill but I personally think Uncle Phil was a better example, by a 1/2 inch.

breh this don't even make sense... all Carlton every knew was the good, bougie life in Bel-Air. How he gone forget where he came from when the way he acted was all he ever known, he aint from around the way. shyt when Will did take him to the hood, Cartlon changed to fit in and Will had to go dime him out to Vivian

im lowkey shocked uncle phil is in the lead. This board loves them some cosby show for some reason so i thought for sure he would've won. I picked uncle phil as well. He was thoughtful, caring, understandable, but also stern with his kids. Bruh took in his nephew IN LAW and treating him like his own. He was a great pops even tho he had to get checked more than a few times early on for being uppity
