Versatility doesn't necessarily mean better though. Depp is typically hit or miss, whereas DDL is basically '01 Barry Bonds status.

Lewis did his thing in Gangs of New York and There will be Blood. other than that, only other movie I saw him in was Last of the Mohicans.
Depp has Blow, The Pirate Movies , Donnie Brasco, Sleepy Hollow.
Hell, Liam Neeson is better than DDL in my opinion.

DDL does less films, and seems to pick them well based off his strengths. Depp however has done some fukking awful films to mix with some great films. Tough choice as they're very different...

I like Depp but he lacks the range to pull off fiilms like In The Name of the Father, or even The Boxer. Depp's career has basically turned into playing weirdo's with make up and accents... he's a Hollywood kabuki actor. When he plays normal people his performances come off as dry and dull. I'll give him Donny Brasco... and 21 Jump Street.
