By the time Just started running Baseline, the label was pretty much broken up. This is after the heyday at the Roc. I used to spend a few nights a week at Baseline when Just was trying to launch his Fort Knocks label, and I was always there during the label's peak. Jay and Dame were broken up and Kanye was bringing in all the money with his albums, when Just owned it. When Hov owned it, that's when Kanye, Bink and Just were there all day, along with dudes like Lofey and Shim and all those classic albums were done. After that run, when things with the label slowed down, that's when you'd see cats like Saigon and Jay Electronica there all the time. Ms. Jade was there a lot too.

But during the label's heyday, Kanye was basically living there. Cooking up shyt for Common, himself, the label's artists, Ludacris, Brandy, The Game, Scarface, Alicia Keys, Twista, etc. He'd be there damn near every single day, it seemed. When Just bought it later on, the label was done, save for what Kanye was doing with his albums.
Man, I'm surprised we didn't bump into each other. The couple times I was at Bassline was basically the same era. The Roc was winding down and Just was working on Saigon's album. Little Brother was getting The Minstrel Show mixed by Young Guru. It was that general time frame.

You jogged my memory that Just bought it as a lot of the Rocafella traffic was winding down.

Swore to gawd BP2 was gonna crush BP's buildings. shyt was mid as fukk. Would've killed if the album had this same vibe
I remember a XXL interview with Kanye and Just leading up to BP2. I was hype as fukk. Ironically Blueprint 2 actually had some of Jay’s best raps. And most of the Just and Kanye beats were solid. But the album was way too bloated, sounded like a mess, and I didn’t like most of the Timbo and Neptunes joints.

Yup shorten that right down to 12 songs and you've got a hell of a follow up to Blueprint

Insignificant posting from an insignificant poster
Kanye's best beats were for artist outside of the Roc like Kweli Just to get By, the stuff he did for Common, and that R&B songs he did for Janet Jackson and Alicia Keys

Just destroys him rap wise, part of the reason Jay lost the battle to nas was because ether was a better beat than Take Over, because Kanye beats don't have that hardcore edge to them

all just blaze beats have that pure hip hop aggression even sentimental songs like Mom Prayin do not sound soft they sound hard but still carry the sad emotional feeling

Yes, that is vastly true...

But a Top 5 ye beat and it was a roc one.

And some other notable mentions for the ROC:

Back in the early/mid 2000's, Yeezy was like contents of a ziplock...

The way he was in his bag.
