I thought it made sense after losing it to put him into the main event at least to compete for it. especially since we were just getting a rematch of the year before.

• paid Rikishi to run over Steve Austin to eliminate him from a title match
  
• married Stephanie to have power in decision making which lead to decisions like Chris Jericho's title "win" overturned and the title returning back to him
  
• created a whole faction in Evolution to protect him by run ins, ambushes, etc.
  
• put a bounty on Goldberg who beat him for the title
  
• turned on his protege when Orton won the World title
• devised a plan to frame JBL as the one who tried to run over Batista when Batista was still deciding on whose championship to go after
  
• put himself as number 30 in the Royal Rumble when it was for the title

And there's probably even more devious stuff he's done. It has to be Triple H and it's what completes his character.
