Yea cuz defjam aint notorious for lettin nikkas rot on the shelf with weak ass promotion or anything like that right? :rudy:

"See nikkas tryin to block the road
Rather then my label drop "The Growth", they should drop us both (oh)
See I could scream Def Jam aint what they used to be
But that ain't for me to say, that's for you to see (if it ain't)
If not Method Man or Redman, Ghostface, Young Gunz
Need I say Freeway, the proof is me
Still don't believe me?, then where's Peedi Peedi?
They ain't really givin a fukk unless you Jeezy
That's what my mind say
Just know if you ain't the President or Kanye, you won't see the time of day"

Yeah, Joe got at him, but no one paid it much attention, even on here. The 'are we hustling or are we grown up' was the one that stuck with me, I don't know how much respect Jay has for Joe, but Joe def. loves Jay artistically, he was just venting on that one.

:wtb: under jay I don't remember release dates bein a problem at all....nikkas mighta been salty abou the lack of promotion...but this "they won't release my album" shyt from budden wuz all ducktales.....he even admitted he didn't turn it in after jay came out and said he hadn't heard it.

The thing was, I think he wasn't being given the resources and budget to make an album he wanted to, which is admirable from an artistic perspective, but foolish from a business one, but didn't the Roots, Young Gunz and Bleek get decent album budgets? Sigel and Method Man too. Anyway, they were giving Budden the bottom tier treatment after 'Joe Budden' flopped, or underperformed. I think they wanted like all commercial tracks, and Budden was doing shyt like 'Unforgiven', there some garbage Joe tracks leftover from that album.

I remember him probaly bein the last rap nikka to get a nate dogg hook:snoop:...I don't remember his budget bein his complaint tho,I remember his album release date kept gettin pushed back and he started blamin def jam for trying to hold his album down, and old nikkas not wanting to see him shine...tellin fans its up to defjam to just put it out when he hasn't even turned it in or let jay hear it...its obvious he just wanted out,

- Jay did Joe dirty by ignoring the request to do the Pump It Up remix, then weeks late he freestyles over the beat for the S. Carter mixtape.
- Then Joe returned fire with the on the Pump It Up (Joe vs. Joe version)
- The Dame brought Joe over to The Roc during their last days. This didn’t do anything and Joe was back on Def Jam with “The Growth” in limbo
- Shots at Jay-Z throughout MM2 and then finally on MM3 Joe was in kamakazi mode (no deal, nothing to lose)

Jay won that "battle" by using politics.

he didn't win that battle on record.

I'm starting to think the whole art of war/48 laws current in hip hop was sort of detrimental to hip hop. it's no longer the quality of the music or your skills. it has become strictly about politics. Jay could battle almost anyone and he'll always "win" if he frames it right no matter what he actually spits on the mic.
