My mom was extra saved born again Christian and mostly played gospel in the house when I was a jit but Monicaโ€™s debut also got heavy play. Thatโ€™s how good that shyt was. She was willing to sin for it:pachaha:

Brandy was the better singer, but Monica's album was better. It was rougher, and had more of a cohesiveness in sound as well as to who Monica was. I think that edge is what made it more digestible for the hood dudes.

Brandy's album had more of a pop to it. But still she could blow, and elevated most of the songs on there. But you really have to listen to Monica's album all the way through for the full effect.

This debate used to include Age Ain't Nothin But a Number though

Crispness
both classics.

Brandy might might have had the better album straight up and down...but in real-time, I think I personally bumped Monica's more.
But that's on the strength of "Get Down" and "Like This & Like That" just being too fiya (I maintain the latter is arguably the best R&B/Rap collab).

Brandy gets the nod because she was keepin' it West Coast, and that sound was winning at the time.
