They set out to destroy the infinity stones but in the end they just kept them for themselves. When cap found out how they roll, they mind wiped him out of fear of being exposed. Ironman and Reed Richards during civil war cloned thor, arrested allies and sent them to the negative zone, got some of them killed. There is a reason why they left out a lot in the civil war movie because they'd look like legit fascists. Not to mention they controlled villains to fight their former allies. The 2nd ultimate alliance game showed what happens when that went wrong and the world was fukked up almost beyond repair.
