I feel like the rock has been that dude in the box office for a short while. I know that fast & furious franchise has been huge. I just don't know if that's enough to make the Rock more famous over those who have been doing the acting thing for decades.

Famous to me is when you can go to a place like Nigeria and they gas you up arnie and cruise have that. You don't get global notoriety with shutter island, great Gatsby, Changeling,mighty heart, tree of life or moneyball. As we've shifted from the era of movie stars you have to give the title to the stalwarts, arnie is done but cruise is still printing money.
All the names in this thread sans rock ain't going to push a movie to record levels off their name

Also, I think people are overrating the Rock just because he's sorta popular right now. People are quick to bring up San Andreas but how many other solo efforts does he got that are worldwide hits? Guys like Cruise, Pitt and Smith are still far above him, hell, I think even a guy like Nicolas Cage might still even be above him just off fame.
Then you got the classic action stars like Stallone and Arnie who anyone in the world will recognize because they are icons. When push comes to shove the Rock got some serious momentum but momentum alone isn't carrying him past the legacies of long-time established actors.
