Ain’t shyt else to talk about and we’re officially at the halfway point of the decade. So based on their stats/accolades from the 2019-2020 season to 2023-2024, who is your top 5?

Candidates:

N. Jokic: 1x NBA champ, 1x FMVP, 1x CFMVP, 3x MVP, 5x All-Star, 5x All-NBA (3 1st), 25/12/8 avg on 65.3 TS%

G. Antetokounmpo: 1x NBA champ, 1x FMVP, 1x MVP, 5x All-Star, 5x All-NBA 1st, 1x DPOY, 3x All-Def 1st, 30/12/6 avg on 62.7 TS%

L. James: 1x NBA champ, 1x FMVP, 5x All-Star (1 1st), 1x Assists leader, 27/8/8 avg on 60.2 TS%

S. Curry: 1x NBA champ, 1x FMVP, 1x CFMVP, 4x All-Star, 4x All-NBA (1 1st), 1x Scoring champ, 28/5/6 avg on 63.0 TS%

J. Embiid: 1x MVP, 5x All-Star, 3x All-NBA (1 1st), 1x All-Def, 2x Scoring champ, 30/11/4 avg on 63.0 TS%

L. Doncic: 1x CFMVP, 5x All-Star, 5x All-NBA 1st, 1x Scoring champ, 30/9/9 avg on 59.5 TS%

J. Tatum: 1x NBA champ, 1x CFMVP, 5x All-Star, 4x All-NBA (3 1st), 27/8/4 avg on 58.8 TS%

Jayson Tatum

However, he would go '0 for whatever' if an actual game was played

Jokic, Giannis and Luka are locks. The other two spots are tough to pin down. Tatum probably deserves one of the spots because of the totality of his play plus he's always healthy but nobody actually thinks he's better than Steph, LeBron or Embiid. But those three have all missed a lot of games and haven't had the same playoff success.

Gun to my head, I'd probably do Curry and Tatum as the last two.

Last two spots came down to LeBron, Luka & Tatum for me, I gave LeBron & Tatum the nod bc of the titles but I fully expect Luka to be there at the end of the decade

Jokic easy

Luka has too many accolades and 2 deep playoff runs

Giannias has accolades and a chip

Tatum has accolades and a chip, just missing MVPs

Curry low key has accolades and a chip

Embiid has accolades but still hasn't got past the 2nd round

Lebron too as well, his case is close to Curry.

So the top 4 are locks, the next 3 are strong candidates

Based on now:
Curry
Luka
Tatum
Giannis
Jokic

If Ja or Ant maintain what they are, their prime and peak squarely fitting in the decade can push Steph out.

No way in hell I'm putting Tatum on the first team. He has never even been a top 5 player in the league.
He hasn't, but it's hard to argue against his case, if only for the fact he's accumulated so much during this decade. The only three players who have definitively greater cases are Jokic, Giannis and Luka, but after them it gets murky. Embiid doesn't have a greater case than him, and neither does Bron. He essentially makes it, by default.

I think we'll know in 2-3 years time if he truly belongs on that list when the dust settles.
