the rock at the two manias snatched the crown from orton as the rock's rival.
as cena was and is a bigger star.
than anyone in his era and his biggest real and only believeable Comp by WWE standards is the rock.

Orton. Batista.
anyone else was just over because of connections. Cena really looked like the next Hogan as far back as reality tv from my estimation and I knew he was the next Hogan.
before he ever showed up on WWE tv
. So when he did finally actually get offered to be a ovw guy. I was like hopefully the WWE does not mess up this potential generation talent.
plus, cena actually made the brilliant gimmick and did the work on a level no one else has. As far as being a real company flagship as far as immediate visual. Cena, immediately as soon as he showed up on tv in any capacity said the next Hogan to me clear as day.
WWE actually getting cena is the only time I can admit. They did their homework and everything else needed given their lack of quality and company direction.

You can’t be a person’s biggest rival if all the matches you’ve had with each other were insignificant and forgettable. That immediately eliminates Orton, regardless of the amount of times they spammed that matchup and attempted to make it important. Edge did for Cena what Mankind did for HHH, it was a legitimate blood feud. Rock and Cena was a battle of two eras. CM Punk vs Cena was one of the best feuds of that period, and MITB 2011 is probably a top ten WWE match and feud of the last 10 years. Batista vs Cena was a battle of two of your biggest stars from the era immediately after the most profitable era in wrestling. Orton doesn’t fit in any one of those categories.

Besides the obvious, edgde

I'd say Angle and Brock during his first couple of years in WWE

Also Umaga use to get in that ass . Underrated talented.
Umaga coulve def been to Cena what Mankind was to Taker.
For those that forget or dont know, Mankind use to give Undertaker hell back in the day.

Its Edge.

#1 Rival, not his biggest rival, his hottest fued, best match or whatever. Its the guy who is or was Cena's main antagonist and its Edge no question.

in kayfabe, Edge and John Cena HATED each other. They'd never team up or never work together, they were direct opposition to each other.

Cena and Orton were rivals, but they didn't hate each other, they commonly team up and worked together in storyline numerous times and even grew a respect for each other. It was more career rivals than outright hatred and Orton's most heated moments were times he rehashed what Edge already did.

Cena and Punk never hated each other, they actually respected each other, Punk just hated what Cena represented. Cena was just one of the cogs in the machine that Punk hated, which is why once Punk actually got the strap, most of his fued was against the authority figures at the time.

Rock was his highest drawing rival, but their fued was based around respect for the business and each other. They also teamed up and eventually went on to become allies in kayfabe.

Edge and Cena NEVER were allies and never respected each other (in kayfabe) and went from validating the entire Money in the Bank concept to actually giving Cena his first legit fued as a main eventer.

The answer is Edge.

This is the most definitive post on this matter :ehh:

Going to go with Rock as his biggest rival. They legit didn’t like each other for a long period of time, especially during the first feud. Rock’s starpower eclipsed Cena’s so it had that mega fight feel. The magnitude and build to their first match is something that probably won’t be replicated.

While I understand the argument for Edge, I feel that Cena was Edge’s biggest rival and not visa versa. Their feud elevated as established Edge as a champion more than elevate Cena.

However, my personal favorite rival feud was with Orton when he RKO’d Cena’s father, & the RKO on the steel chair on Saturday Night’s Main Event.
