Why the fukk would a Grammy nominated record not have a chance
Because you erroneously stated that Killer Mike makes the type of music that the Grammys “love” which was just wrong. Period. When it comes to rap the Grammys love what sells and whats relatively “safe”. No unabashedly “Pro Black” album has won a Grammy unless you want to count To Pimp A Butterfly, in which i’d say no militantly pro black album has ever won a Grammy even though they HAVE been nominated (Public Enemy were the first nominated in 1990 & 91 with the songs Fight The Power & Fear Of A Black Planet before Best Rap Album was a thing) Wu-Tang Forever, which unabashedly 5% with pro black militant themes was nominated in 1999 but lost to Puff Daddy’s No Way Out. Nas’s Untitled was nominated in 09 but lost to Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter 3. Jay Electronica’s A Written Testimony, which was more a celebration of the black Muslim faith and philosophy than it is “militant” but still features Minister Farrakhan, was nominated in 2021 but lost to Nas’s Kings Disease.
The Grammys will nominate an album all day long, but in the 28 year history of the Best Rap Album being presented, if an album with pro black themes at it’s forefront hasn’t ever won then what PRECISELY makes you say that its the type of music the Grammys like to award? Explain in detail for those of us who are slow good sir.
