With regards to contemporary music, I'd throw guys like Prince and D'Angelo up there.

RZA, not just for production. his ability to pick talent in the wu and handle them takes a whole nother level of talent most cannot achieve while simultaneously being a groundbreaking producer and dropping some of the sickest verses when hes on some shyt.
