What is this shyt how does MTV survive off of this shyt? I realize I'm not the first to make a thread about this but how has this been sustainable long term?
It's very simple actually.

Ridiculousness is an extremely cheap show to produce, with an extremely fast turnaround (they're shooting over 200 episodes a year now).

It has no revolving door cast or storylines to keep track of, which means there isn't a large cast or writing staff to pay.

The episodes can be aired in any order, and viewers can tune in to any random episodes and get the gist of the show immediately.

In the current era of TV,more networks are filling hours with 'fluff' programs like Ridiculousness, and putting all of their other shows on their respective streaming services. TBS and TNT have canceled all their scripted shows, and cable networks are relying more on cheap reality TV. And on broadcast TV even the reality and talk shows are getting canceled for cheap local news broadcasts.

Ridiculousness is not the first show to overtake a whole channel's schedule like this, and it won't be the last. Nickelodeon has been doing the same with SpongeBob and Cartoon Network has been doing the same with Teen Titans Go for well over a decade.

they making rob dyrdek a billionaire :mjlol:

He wanted to get out a long time ago but MTV kept writing those checks and giving him power so :hubie:

Dude is hands down one of the most business savvy pro skateboarders ever and was doing this shyt even before the MTV fame

At one point he was designing not only his pro model for DC Shoes, but also designing general release models for them as well. Eventually he was getting royalties on like a 3rd of all the shoes they were selling in the catalog

The whole Rob & Big thing stemmed from him being in the super hyped DC video in the early 2000s and feeling past his prime. He wanted to come up with a gimmick to help him stand out which is where big black came into play. That DC video ended up being legendary and the response from his skit with Big Black was the origins of the MTV show

As you can see this dude just continues to level up in life :wow:

The bolded is obviously lol this goes for any so called reality show. However showing this shyt in all day marathons and actually getting advertisers to buy time on the show and any decent viewership that's well ridiculous.

that's weird because it's not like that on network tv (abc, nbc, fox, etc)
i guess it's the cable cutting issue

It’s essentially what USA Network is doing with Law & Order and other dikk Wolf shows.

Same thing with impractical jokers.

Middle America beer drinking basement nerds.

I know black girls that are strippers/bottle girls and all they watch outside of court shows and Viacom black female programming, is Ridiculousness, Impractical Jokers, and Family Feud.

shyt really a deal breaker for me now, I can’t deal with a woman with shytty media taste.

If you're an average viewer channel surfing on a random Saturday afternoon, what are you more likely to tune in to MTV specifically for?

A show like Teen Mom, The Challenge or Jersey Shore, that may already be more than halfway through the season, and has its own storylines and cast changes to try to keep track of?

OR

A show like Ridiculousness, where you can just jump into any random episode and know what's going on, and because it has no recurring storylines you can leave it on as background noise while you do other things?

Most viewers these days would rather watch Ridiculousness on MTV (where they can tune in and have random episodes curated for them) and the other shows on Paramount+ (where they can watch the shows from the beginning and follow the whole season), and advertisers know this. They are well aware of the landscape of cable TV these days.

This isn't anything new. Before the days of streaming, shows like Lost and Heroes would bomb in cable reruns but do well on DVD, while shows like Law & Order would bomb on DVD but do well in reruns.

I'm surprised no one mentioned how they rotate famous guests like rappers, actors, athletes, models, etc.

The celebrities were literally half of the draw to the show.
